Haig ‘08 – Sid Haig’s Official Presidential Campaign Speech

Posted on March 20th, 2010 by admin

Brought to you by The Eerie Horror Fest-

My Fellow Americans,

I would like to put yet another Internet rumor to rest by saying that I am in fact running for President of the United States. This is not a “PR stunt” or a “joke”, and I am not simply “pretending to run to politically rouse my demographic”. Nor am I running under the character name of Captain Spaulding. I, Sid Haig, am running for President. That is a fact.

I have stated in the past that my hopes of winning are slim at best, but the only way we the people can send a message to Washington DC is for me to get at least 1% of the vote, not to be taken as a “joke”. Treating this country as a joke is what got us where we are in the first place, isn’t it? It’s time to stop that.

We can do this, if you all register to vote and then write my name in as your choice for President. It’s very simple. Just write it in. That’s it.

An overwhelming number of you have said that you agree with my position on taxes, health care, immigration and all the rest of the many things that we find wrong with the way the current administration is handling things, and I appreciate that. But to take that fire and snuff it by just laughing it off is counterproductive and will change nothing for any of us Americans.

If any of you really agree and “would vote for me if I was really running”, then now’s your chance to make your voice heard, because this is 100% real.

I hope this clears up any misconceptions about my campaign.

Vote Sid Haig in 08′.

- Sid

In this speech, Sid gets tough with politics. Included are his viewpoints on immigration, earmarks, the economy, marijuana, the war, and global warming and more.

Peace Through Strength (1980 Political Commercial)

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

Ronald Reagan’s television spots were not particularly artful. The centerpiece of the campaign was a conventional biographical ad tracing Reagan’s career and crediting him with reducing California’s deficit while lowering taxes. The ad’s main purpose was to show that Reagan—best known to the public as a movie actor—was also an effective governor.

The rest of Reagan’s ads were simple but effective variations on the central question he put to voters: “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?” A variety of attack ads reiterated the main problems of the Carter administration: high inflation and the hostage crisis. One spot, credited to “Democrats for Reagan,” included a clip of Ted Kennedy shouting, “No more Jimmy Carter!” during the primary campaign. An unusual negative spot featured Nancy Reagan lambasting Carter for his “vacillating” foreign policy. Though it is common for advertising to feature a candidate’s family members, spouses rarely appear in attack ads.

Reagan’s campaign took advantage of a loophole in federal financing laws designed to limit overall campaign spending. These laws placed a ceiling on the amount of money that could be contributed directly to a campaign, but they also permitted the creation of political action committees, independent groups whose expenditures in support of candidates were not counted against the spending limit. PACs spent a total of $12 million dollars on Reagan’s behalf, compared to less than $50,000 on Carter’s.

Gotham: Barack Obama’s favorite font

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin

Can the right font make the difference in a media-driven election? Barack Obama’s campaign is increasingly using the font Gotham for their “Change We Can Believe In” banners and other material. In this outtake from Gary Hustwit’s 2007 documentary “Helvetica”, type designers Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones discuss the creation of Gotham. The font was originally commissioned for GQ Magazine, and the list of qualities they were looking for then sounds surprisingly Obama-esque now. http://www.helveticafilm.com/blog

YouTube Campaign for Burma – Free Aung San Suu Kyi and Other Political Prisoners

Posted on December 16th, 2009 by admin

Hello YouTubers and Friends,

I am starting a YouTube campaign for Burma, freedom of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi ( http://www.dassk.org ) and other political prisoners in Burma.

Burmese pro democracy leader, the Nobel laureate, Aung San Suu Kyi, has completed 13 years of house arrest by the Burmese military junta and is still under house arrest, and allowed no contact with the outside world. Additional thousands of monks, and students have been imprisoned for their peaceful calls for democracy recently.

This week, there is an arising hope for their release, and I really need you all to stand with them.

Here, I made this 4 minutes video to call the world to help. As the global economy down turns, Burma’s leaders are more vulnerable to international pressure. We are trying to get 888,888 signatures from people, and send them to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon to make this a top priority.

Please sing the petition here: http://www.avaaz.org/en/free_burma_political_prisoners

Over 160 Burma exile and solidarity groups in 24 countries are participating in the campaign. We need you and your friends, and your friends’ friends to participate in the campaign. Please make a Burma awareness video and ask your friends to sing the petition.

Lastly, many thanks to my country girl, a singer and original song writer, Mary Win, for writing this beautiful music, Suddenly and giving me a permission to use: www.youtube.com/marywinmusic

I also like to acknowledge U2 for the song “Walk On” written and sung for Aung San Suu Kyi.

Gersing

Update: May 14, 2009
DASSK is facing new charges in Burma that could land her in jail for six years. Please read more here: http://garlicky.xanga.com/701791138/dassk-to-face-new-charges/
