How much money has been spent on the presidential campaign?

Recently, my journalism teacher told us that in other countries, the amount of money spent on campaigning is limited. I found myself wondering why we do not have the same practice, and I started thinking about other grievances I have with the political tradition. Right now, I’m writing a letter to both presidential candidates to express my concern… not that it will do me any good, but still. I think we’ve been given the privilege to be heard, and not enough people utilize it.

Its got to be over a billion when you consider ALL of the candidates who’ve been involved AND the public funds that are put up for security and other costs.
One of the reasons is because the US is so much larger than most other countries, geographically AND population wise. Another is the incredibly long election period. Most European countries, for example, don’t allow the race to start 18 months out. We should revise that, I think.

other countries’ television advertising does not cost the same as in the USA, and that is where most of the campaign money is spent
also, except for Russia, there are very few countries that are as large as the USA and has a big population, Brazil might be big, but it doesn’t have the same amount of people, and in order to be competitive in all 50 states, then money has to be spent in every state

OBAMA has raised more money then any other president in the history of well…..

Guaranteed if he doesnt win that money will go to some charity of some non-prof. org. that does great things in THIS country…
