Will republicans still be able to call Obama a radical Muslim like they did in the 2008 election campaign?

Or again will the new hate crime bill eliminate such abuses of words ?

They can say whatever they want just as long as it’s not slander.

I agree with republicans as far as Obama’s crappy policies, but it kinda gets on my nerves that they spread all this propaganda that he’s a commie, muslim, terrorist, socialist antichrist. It’s just name calling and immature, they should talk about his crappy policies instead

Hate crime bill? Isn’t childish name calling protected under freedom of speech, I’ve never called him that (I’d never insult the radical muslims that way. ;P lols jk ) but I feel all of us should have the right to insult whatever politician however we choose to insult them.

I mean come on republican or Democrat I think we can all agree if the government at any point decides we can’t call out elected officials rude names they’ve gone to far.

I mean the governor isn’t technically a "Rat Bast*rd" but I find my self calling him that all the time? Is that going to be illegal? Is it technically true, no. Is it petty and pointless, yup. Do I have the right to say it? Hell yes.

I don’t think the hate crime bill limits freedom of speech, it just applies to existing crimes, tacking on an additional punishment. Hate crime legislation is an attempt at thought control anyway, supposing that the courts can tell what a person is thinking when they commit a crime.

Never heard anyone call him a radical Muslim.
Heard what was true – that he attended school in Indonesia, and was brought up for a period of time in the faith, under his stepfather.

The hate speech restrictions that you talk about are directly against the freedom of speech that Americans are lucky to enjoy, and many citizens of other nations wish they had. Don’t be so quick to applaud the loss of your freedom to express yourself, because once that ball starts rolling, it’s pretty hard to stop.

What stupid, moron republicans say isn’t real important – it’s only scary when they get the idiots out of their trailers to vote.

The hate crime bill doesn’t affect freedom of speech, so they can lie all they want, as long as they don’t incite or participate in violence. The problem with the hate crime bill is that it was a rider to a bill for war, which is a violent hate crime.
