An organization wants to position itself as a leader in embracing diversity in the workplace. How will the PR Campaign affect the marketing function of the organization?
Kudler Foods wants to position itself as a leader in embracing diversity in the workplace.
Well we PR people think that the question should really be how do marketing activities affect your public image.
Public Relations governs the overall image, and communication between your organisation and the external world. PR is affected by all actions that the organisation takes. So if your marketing message contradicts your PR message you’ll have trouble with that one.
Maybe you should also ask whether complimenting yourself on "Embracing diversity” will have any real, tangible effect for your organisation. Most people when they read that tend to get a bit cynical, it’s just the latest buzzword. Much better to tell everyone that you’re utilizing synergy and the Web 2.0. (sarcasm).
But, if the message is (which I personally think is unlikely) positively recieved by the audience, it should create positive connotations with your company which can only help your marketing functions.
Also, as an aside, more important than ”embracing diversity” is credibility. If you get caught in actions that would suggest that your company DOESN’T ”embrace diversity” it will have a worse affect on your company’s reputation than if you had never run the PR campaign at all. So be prepared to follow your words up with action!
John Marmie(LCROSS Project Manager) may be the only person of more than 10,000 employees at NASA Ames Research Center who is a rock star. Marmie, the deputy project manager of the LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) project, has a less technical side he writes music. His most recent recording is Water on the Moon about mankinds curiosity as evidenced by this weeks headlines of the moon launch. The Shepherding Spacecraft
is guiding the rocket to a site on the moon that has a high probability of containing water, thus Marmies song
title. You can find the full official VIDEO AT: http://www.youtube.com/user/NASAeClips

Growing up in the rural Appalachian foothills of the Ohio Valley, John Marmie developed a passion for music. When he combined that passion with his enthusiasm for space exploration, he was inspired to write an original song, ‘Water on the Moon.’
As the deputy project manager for the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) mission at NASAs Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., Marmie is helping spearhead America’s return to the moon. Scheduled to launch later this year, the LCROSS mission is designed to search for water by impacting one of the moon’s permanently shadowed craters. Marmie’s goal is to not only help write history with LCROSS, but also to inspire others.
“I learned in my early 20s about the power of music,” said Marmie. “It entertained, it opened social doors, it inspired and music allowed me to relax, escape and to dream.”
During a trip to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Fla., the idea of writing a song for LCROSS first crossed his mind after receiving inspiration from a Walt Disney quote about curiosity moving people forward. Excited, Marmie saw an opportunity to combine his two passions.
“I asked someone from NASA headquarters if a song had ever been written for a space mission,” said Marmie. “The answer was Im not sure, but if you did write one, I know someone that knows Jon Bon Jovi.”
Five months later, Marmie sat down one afternoon in his small home studio and wrote ‘Water on the Moon’. With the help of his friend, Jeff Petro, they produced and released the song to the project three months later.
“The response has been phenomenal from team members, friends and family,” said Marmie. “It by far has already received more attention than all my other songs combined. Its actually a refreshing change after 17 years of rejection from Nashville and L.A. publishers!” Marmie has written more than 100 songs.
Marmie said his dream is to write a song that would be professionally recorded by a well-known artist and played on the radio. It is still a dream but LCROSS may help break down those doors.
