Harvey Milk was the first openly-gay man to be elected to public office in the US in 1977. His most recognized speech, “You Cannot Live On Hope Alone,” was given in 1978, shortly before he was assassinated. His words resonate particularly today as Californians debate a resolution to ban gay marriage.

“Somewhere in Des Moines or San Antonio there is a young gay person who all the sudden realizes that he or she is gay; knows that if their parents find out they will be tossed out of the house, their classmates will taunt the child, and the Anita Bryant’s and John Briggs’ are doing their part on TV. And that child has several options: staying in the closet, and suicide. And then one day that child might open the paper that says “Homosexual elected in San Francisco” and there are two new options: the option is to go to California, or stay in San Antonio and fight. Two days after I was elected I got a phone call and the voice was quite young. It was from Altoona, Pennsylvania. And the person said “Thanks”. And you’ve got to elect gay people, so that thousand upon thousands like that child know that there is hope for a better world; there is hope for a better tomorrow. Without hope, not only gays, but those who are blacks, the Asians, the disabled, the seniors, the us’s: without hope the us’s give up. I know that you can’t live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living. And you, and you, and you, and you have got to give them hope.”

No wonder you think …
No wonder you think Milk is your hero, you are just as perverted has he is. Judging by your “teen boys in cat suits” video you also must be a member of NAMBLA. Youre a sick person and nothing about you will ever be perceived nor should be embraced as normal healthly behavior.

Actually, yes I do. …
Actually, yes I do. And who says ‘fornicate’? What are you, a jesus freak? Milk was an American hero.

FYI Milk started …
FYI Milk started his relationship with McKinley in NewYork in 1963.
Judging by your response you find it socially acceptable for a 33 year old man to fornicate with a 16 year old boy. Or is it that you find that it acceptable because it was the law, if so, sodomy was against the law in 1963. Either way you look at it, Milks pretty sick. In 1963 and todays standard, Milk was wrong socially and lawfully, unless you think statutory rape is OK?

And FYI, in 1972 …
And FYI, in 1972 the age of consent in California was 16.

Sorry, but …
Sorry, but everything I find points to Milk liking young men/boys and one of them being a 16 year old. I have quoted several sources that reaffirm that point, from gay authors mostly. If you would like to counter my point beyond your feelings or back up why you believe the opposite, Id be more that happy to read it.
Your gay hero Milk liked teenage boys, and to deign that in the face of facts is being ignorant. To celebrate a man that was into statutory rape is wrong.

“It’s the gays that …
“It’s the gays that blow their issue out of porportion.”
..said the heterosexual commenting negatively (and using child-like comments) on a homosexual-friendly video.

@kcchiefsbaby …
@kcchiefsbaby trolling is a choice, and you’re doing a good job of it tonight.
Especially with your copy/paste spam you’re leaving all over the gay-friendly videos on youtube.
Grow up.

More from …
More from gayleheim.blogspot(dot)com
In 1963, a few odd jobs after his teaching gig, Harvey landed a job at a Wall Street investment firm Bache and Company and discovered that he had a real gift for finance and investment. At this point in Milks life, his political and social views were surprisingly rather conservative, despite his lifestyle. Harveys true inner views became more apparent, though, after he met new lover Jack Galen McKinley.
Everything points to McKinley being 16 in 1963.

Again from the Book …
Again from the Book “The Mayor of Castro Street.” Read it on google books
[Shortened] Pg 30. By 1963 OHorgan was trying his hand at experimental theater. McKinley Lived with OHorgan for only a few weeks when he came in one day to announce that a handsome business man TWICE HIS AGE was vying for his affection. OHorgan dismissed the news. He was relieved when the suitor materialized, since he was already worried that the SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD McKinley was looking for some kind of father figure.

I don’t think …
I don’t think you’re getting the point of my argument, I believe that McKinley was the same age as Milk, not 16 at the time, where are you getting your facts?
November 17th, 2009 at 11:37 am
alright ” …
alright “yereviltwin2″ i suggest that you stop spending so much time perfecting your rebuttals as to why harvey milk was such a “sicko.” you are ignorant and out of line. harvey milk was a great man, and you would have been LUCKY to have known him. maybe one day you’ll become enlightened. god doesn’t teach hate, pick up a bible.

OK? Lets take what …
OK? Lets take what you think is speculation out of the equation and look at the facts.
“On February 14th 1980 McKinley committed suicide. He was 33, the same age when Milk and McKinley fell in love in 1963″
lets do some basic mathematics again
McKinley born 1947
1980 – 33= 1947
1947 + 16= 1963
Milk born 1930
1930 + 33= 1963
Your hero Milk, was a sicko and liked teenage boys.
November 17th, 2009 at 11:37 am
That was all …
That was all speculation, much like how people say Walt Disney was a Communist or how George Bush orchestrated 9/11
Just because you read something, doesn’t mean it’s true…
November 17th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Read “The Mayor of …
Read “The Mayor of Castro Street.”
“…sixteen-year-old McKinley was looking for some kind of father figure…At 33, Milk was launching a new life, though he could hardly have imagined the unlikely direction toward which his new lover would pull him.” (pages 30-31)
“It would be to boyish-looking men in their late teens and early 20’s that Milk would be attracted for the rest of his life.” (page 24)
“Harvey always had a penchant for young waifs with substance abuse problems.” (page 180)
November 17th, 2009 at 11:37 am
…and where did …
…and where did you get the age 16 from?
Jack McKinley:
Born- 1930
Met Harvey- 1963
Died- 1980
You got those stats from a conservative website, which is incorrect, btw

Before you make …
Before you make statements about people needing professional help and that they should go see a shrink perhaps you should check the American Psychiatric Association’s position on the matter. Homosexuality is no longer considered a psychological disorder and consequently psychologists and psychiatrists will not attempt to “cure” someone of being a homosexual.
