Dirt files: Ukraine’s scandal-hit election campaign

Ukraine’s opposition party has managed to get changes to the country’s election law approved by Parliament — ahead of Sunday’s second-round run-off in the presidential race. The original law stated that Central Election Committee meetings and the vote itself would only be considered valid if more than two thirds of commission members were present. The Party of Regions, headed by Presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovich, pushed for the quorum system to be revoked. He claimed his rival Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko may try to withdraw members of her party from the committee – jeopardizing the poll.

With three months before Election Day, the McCain campaign launched a negative ad that mocks Barack Obama’s popularity, comparing him to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Chip Reid reports.
